Assisted living: Wardwell Home
The elegant Victorian-style Wardwell Home offers sixteen one- and two- bedroom residencies with private bath. This is our private pay facility. Residents are served three meals a day in the charming dining room. Skilled staff members assist residents with medication management and health monitoring, along with housekeeping and laundry services. The Wardwell also has available an in-house Lifeline emergency system for the resident's safety and security. Caring volunteers supply transportation to local medical appointments when families are unable to do it.
Where is the Wardwell located?
The Wardwell is located at 43 Middle Street, Saco within close walking distance to stores, banks, post office, churches and other community resources on historic Main Street. While being adjacent to the conveniences of downtown, the Wardwell enjoys a quiet residential neighborhood location that offers easy access to visitors.
What does the Wardwell offer?
The Wardwell is the centerpiece of the Wardwell Neighborhood, which is comprised of independent apartments, Wardwell Commons and the Wardwell Gardens. All the residents are encouraged to come together in the Activity Room of the Wardwell Gardens for musical programs, crafts, exercise and social events, but are given the freedom to make decisions on their own about what activities they would like to take part in. The Wardwell maintains a smoke-free environment. Walking paths lead from the porches and wind through the neighborhood so that residents can get their exercise.
What services are available?
The Wardwell offers residents three meals a day, service coordination, transportation, weekly housekeeping, laundry, health monitoring, social/wellness programs and 24-hour unscheduled assistance. The Wardwell is not a health care facility.
Who will be eligible for residency?
Other than being age 62, there are no eligibility requirements for residency.

Are utilities included in the cost?
All utilities except your own telephone and cable TV are included in the monthly cost.
Do you have an elevator?
Yes.
How long is the waiting list?
Once you have decided you are interested, you should call and inquire about availability. Since there could be a waiting time, you should have your name placed on the list as soon as you are interested.
Is there an income limit?
There is no income limit for the Wardwell Home.
Is the facility locked?
The Wardwell is not a locked facility, and you may come and go as you please. We ask our residents to sign out when they leave so that we know they are out of the facility. The Wardwell is not suitable for residents who might wander.
Do I bring my own furniture/ what should I bring?
Yes, you bring your own furniture. The units are of varying sizes, so you will need to visit your room to see what furniture you might want to bring.
Does the apartment come with a kitchen?
The original Wardwell Home has one or two room units, and there are no kitchen facilities in the rooms. All meals and a snack are provided. There is a choice of meals for each meal.
Can I have a dog/cat?
The residents of the Wardwell have voted not to allow pets in the facility.
Do you allow smoking?
The Wardwell Neighborhood is a non-smoking neighborhood.
Do you have storage?
The only storage is the closet in your room.
Can I bring my car?
We have very limited parking for Home residents. Since we are located downtown, few residents feel the need to bring their vehicles.
Do you provide transportation?
Subject to the availability of volunteers, we provide transportation to local Doctors appointments. We encourage our residents' family members to take part in the residents' health, including taking them to appointments.
